Valdosta, GA : One killed in semi truck accident south of Valdosta on Friday, February 24, 2017
A wreck involving a semi-truck resulted in a fatality Friday, according to an officer on the scene.
The accident took place around noon at the intersection of U.S. 41 and Inner Perimeter Road south of Valdosta.
Dillan Tyson saw the accident while sitting in a Roto-Rooter truck, waiting on a red light southbound on U.S. 41.
He said when the light turned green, a semi-truck carrying a load of wood heading east on Inner Perimeter "blew through the intersection," struck a red car, jumped over the car into the opposite lane, struck a Ford Ranger, overturned "and dragged the Ranger off into the woods" beside the road.
An ambulance was on the scene, and a life-flight helicopter landed in the middle of Inner Perimeter, boarded one person strapped to a gurney and took off.
The Georgia State Patrol, the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and medical crews responded.
The wreck resulted in one fatality, said a member of the state patrol's Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team on the scene. Officers were still at work at the wreck scene at 12:30 p.m. Friday.
