Hillsboro, OR : Pedestrian dies after struck by a car in Hillsboro on Thursday, February 5, 2015
A 58-year-old man died after he was struck by a car in Hillsboro late Thursday, police said.
The incident occurred about 11 p.m. on Southwest Oak Street near Bailey Street, said Lt. Mike Rouches, a Hillsboro Police spokesman. Police determined that Robert C. Smith, who is homeless, was walking or standing in the middle lane of Oak Street when he was struck by a 2006 Mazda3.
Smith was taken to OHSU Hospital in Portland, where he died early Friday. The Mazda's driver, who police identified as Derek J. Welch, 34, of Hillsboro, was not cited.
Members of the Washington County Crash Analysis Reconstruction Team helped with the investigation. The incident closed Oak Street, which is part of Oregon 8 in Hillsboro, until about 12:20 a.m.
