Volusia County, FL : 1 dies in Volusia County I-4 crash near mile marker 118 on Saturday, 29th December 2018

A man from DeBary died Saturday night after his car struck a light pole and then caught fire, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The car was heading westbound on I-4 in Volusia County near mile marker 118 at 8:45 p.m. when it went off the roadway for an “unknown reason,” according to an FHP press release.

The release states the front of the 2009 four-door Toyota struck a light pole and caught fire. The driver died at the scene, FHP Lt. Kim Montes said.

It is unknown if the driver was wearing a seat belt, according to the release. It is not yet determined if alcohol was involved, the release states.

Due to the condition of the driver, an identification has not been made, the release states. The crash remains under investigation.
