Fiery crash kills 2 people in Gretna

Two people burned to death Friday morning after their car veered off Gretna Boulevard and crashed into a high voltage utility tower, according to our news partners at FOX 8. The wreck happened around 3:30 a.m.

It took several hours for police to remove the bodies from the vehicle, FOX 8 said. It is unclear if the victims are male or female. A vehicle description has not been released.

The wreck in the 500 block of Gretna Boulevard shut down the eastbound lanes of the roadway for several hours Friday morning from Lafayette Street to Belle Chasse Highway.

Police say they believe speed was a factor in the crash. The accident is still under investigation.
