Charlotte, North Carolina
The spouses of three Burmese refugees killed in a crash on I-77 Saturday night are now speaking out.
Authorities say six people were in a vehicle traveling home from work when the driver lost control and slammed into the back of a bus. Three were killed and three others injured.
Thla Aye is the wife of one of the victims, Khai Hne. Through a translator, she told WBTV that the reality of her husband being gone hasn't hit her.
"I'm very very sad and I'm very very hopeless, I can't think about for my life how to manage without husband," Aye said.
Aye said like the others, her and her husband fled Burma to escape government oppression.
"We face a lot of difficult situations in Burma so we escape from Burma," Aye said.
Aye called her life in the United States better. But now, she finds herself a widow, left to raise a two-year-old and an unborn child on her own. Aye is seven months pregnant with a child that will never know their father.
"I am not ready yet to face this kind of situation," Aye said.
But Aye isn't the only one hurting. Sai Tei lost her husband Khai Tlo. The couple has two children.
"I never think about I may have to face this situation"
The third victim was Tei Paw, who was a mother of three. Her husband Le Bie now relies solely on memories.
"For me, my wife is the most beautiful woman in the world, the most lovely wife in the world," Bie said.
