Cookeville, TN : Early morning crash shuts down interstate on Friday, 29th September 2016
An early morning crash on Interstate 40 west of Cookeville resulted in secondary accidents and victims transported to Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the first wreck occurred around 12:30 a.m. Friday at the 275 eastbound milemarker. A driver crashed into the guide wire, coming to rest in the middle of I-40. This resulted in a chain reaction crash involving a total of six vehicles, including two commercial motor vehicles.
Two people were transported by ground to the hospital.
During the course of the investigation on that crash, there was an interstate shutdown, backing up traffic.
That caused another crash, this one resulting in a fire.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, a vehicle pulling a camper had stopped in traffic. The driver behind that vehicle did not stop and drove up under the camper, causing the fire.
The vehicle and the camper burned and the driver of the striking vehicle was taken to the hospital.
The interstate reopened about mid-morning.
