Sacramento, CA : Four people killed in wrong-way crash on Hwy. 50 at Stockton Boulevard. on Wednesday morning, April 22, 2015
The California Highway Patrol says four people were killed in a wrong-way crash that blocked several lanes of a freeway in Sacramento.
CHP Officer Rich Wetzel says the collision occurred shortly before 2:30 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. Route 50 just east of downtown.
Wetzel says the driver of a Toyota Prius was heading eastbound in the westbound lanes when the car slammed head-on into a pickup truck.
The woman driving the Prius and three men inside the pickup truck were all pronounced dead at the scene.
A third vehicle was also involved, but the driver only suffered minor injuries.
Wetzel says the Prius apparently drove for several miles in the wrong direction before hitting the pickup.
Several westbound lanes remained closed hours after the crash as the CHP investigated.
