GARFIELD, KS : Woman dies man hurt in head-on crash on Kansas highway on Wednesday, 18th October 2023

A woman was killed and a man suffered serious injuries when two vehicles collided head-on in central Kansas on Wednesday.

The accident happened just after 8 p.m. on U.S. 56 about three miles southwest of Garfield in Pawnee County. The Kansas Highway Patrol reports a westbound Kia Optima crossed the center line and collided with an oncoming Toyota Prius.

The driver of the Kia, 40-year-old Tess Couch of Larned, died at the scene. The 46-year-old Holley, New York man driving the Toyota was transported to a Wichita hospital.

It's unclear what caused Couch's car to go left of center.
