Panama City, FL : One person dead in crash at Panama City bus stop on Friday afternoon, April 8, 2016

The driver in a fatal crash on Sherman Avenue on Friday afternoon swerved off the road to avoid a stopped school bus, eyewitnesses said.
The man who was driving was taken to a hospital for treatment as authorities investigated the death of a woman who was his passenger.
The mangled remains of the silver four-door Nissan that careened into a utility pole in the 2000 block of Sherman Avenue were momentarily left behind.
The driver’s and passenger’s identities were not immediately released, nor was the extent of the driver’s injuries. Officials will release the names after a next-of-kin is notified.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) is investigating the crash. Whether charges will be filed was unclear Thursday afternoon.
Angela McDonald said she glanced out her kitchen window about 2:30 p.m. and saw the Nissan “going extremely fast” south on Sherman Avenue before it passed out of her view.
“I seen them come speeding down the road, then all I heard was tires squealing and this loud crash,” McDonald said. “I went outside and there was dust everywhere.”
McDonald lives in Sherman Pines Mobile Home Park, a regular school bus stop along the road with a 35 mph speed limit.
As the dust settled, McDonald said she could see the Nissan overturned on the east side of the road. A black car was stopped in the southbound lane as a school bus, stop-sign arm outstretched, sat facing north on the street.
First responders arrived, pulled the driver from the wreckage and rushed him to the hospital. His passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
It was the second crash fatality in Bay County on Friday. A Panama City man died in a two-vehicle wreck early that morning on State Road 77 just north of Woodland Road in Sand Hills.
Cory Harrison, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:05 a.m., the FHP reported. The driver of the second vehicle, Chelse Dorman, 33, of Chipley, and Harrison’s passenger, Chelsea Jordan, 22, of Panama City, were taken to Bay Medical Center Sacred Heart Health System with serious injuries.
The FHP reported Dorman was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck north in the inside southbound lane of State 77 while Harrison was traveling south in the same lane in a 2000 Chevrolet truck. The vehicles collided head-on.
The Silverado stopped in the inside travel lane and Harrison’s truck ended up facing north on the west shoulder, the FHP report said.
Everyone was wearing seat belts, according to the report. Charges are pending further investigation.
