Pueblo, CO : Three people died in a crash on Colorado on May, Wednesday, 24th 2017

Three people died in a crash on Colorado 287 in Baca County early Wednesday morning, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The wreck happened about 5 miles north of Campo, the patrol said.

The patrol said around 2:20 a.m., a semi-trailer was traveling south on Colorado 287 when it traveled into the northbound lane of traffic and collided head-on with another semi-trailer.

After the collision, the southbound semi-trailer came to rest in the north lane facing south.

The northbound semi-trailer ran off the east side of the road and came to rest in a ditch.

A third semi-trailer that was traveling north ran off the east side of the road to avoid the crash and struck a barbed-wire fence and came to rest facing north.

The crash closed the road for an extended period for investigation and cleanup.

The three people who died in the crash have not yet been identified, nor did officials say which victims were in which vehicles.

The investigation is ongoing.
