Falmouth, MA : Police officer and woman injured after a car struck a parked police cruiser on Route 28 in East Falmouth on Sunday morning, March 15, 2015
A Falmouth police officer was injured early Sunday morning when his cruiser was struck by a car at a work site on Route 28. According to a release from Falmouth police, the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) closed the Child's River Bridge on Waquoit Highway (Route 28) around midnight for repairs.
The recent heavy rain and melting snow necessitated the repairs, according to police.
The car vs. cruiser crash reportedly occurred around 2:15 a.m. during the bridge closure. A Falmouth police officer and the driver of the car that struck the cruiser were reportedly transported to Falmouth Hospital with unknown injuries. Falmouth police have not yet release any information about the crash.
Detours had been put in place while repairs were being made. Falmouth police released a second statement at 4:30 a.m. Sunday saying the repairs had been made and the bridge was reopened to motorists in both directions.
It is unknown if the driver involved in the crash will face any charges.
