SANTA FE, NM : Two people killed in I-25 chain collision on Monday, January, 15th 2018

The New Mexico State Police have identified the two people killed in a “chain collision” on icy Interstate 25 Monday evening south of Las Vegas, N.M.

David Franklin Halward, 35, of Scotts Valley, Calif., and Nathaniel Gerry Hurwitz, 52, of Albuquerque were pronounced deceased at the scene by personnel from the Office of the Medical Investigator, says a State Police news release.

About 5:30 p.m. Monday, amid snow and frozen fog, 20 vehicles including three semi trucks were involved in crashes near the Romeroville exit.

The series of collisions started when a vehicle slid off the roadway and struck a median divider and a tractor-trailer rig, trying to avoid that crash, jack-knifed on the highway. Numerous others were treated for injuries at local hospitals.
