Cushing ,OK : 18- Years old Benjamin A. Applegate killed and another injured after crash along state Highway 18 on Tuesday,April 21 2015
One person is dead and another was injured in a early morning crash Tuesday near Cushing.
Pickup driver Benjamin A. Applegate, 18, of Cleveland was pronounced dead at the scene at State Highway 18, approximately 4 miles from Cushing near 56th Street, according to an Oklahoma Highway Patrol report.
For unknown reasons, Applegate's pickup went left of center while traveling south on S.H. 18. His pickup struck a second pickup traveling north. It was driven by 30-year-old James C. Bittle Jr. of Cushing. The two vehicles hit head on.
Both men were wearing seat belts and airbags deployed in both vehicles. Applegate was pinned for an hour before being freed by the Cushing Fire Department.
Troopers listed conditions as rainy and wet on a concrete bridge on a two-lane roadway. The cause of the collision is left of center, and Applegate’s condition is under investigation. Bittle was transferred to Stillwater Medical Center in stable condition.
