Driver of wrong-way pickup on I-440 killed in collision, police say
A man who was driving a pickup the wrong way on Interstate 440 in Little Rock was killed after the vehicle struck a sport utility vehicle head-on Sunday night, authorities said.Brian A. Ott, 34, of Jacksonville was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup west in an eastbound lane of I-440 near the Springer Boulevard exit when it hit an oncoming 2005 GMC Yukon, according to an Arkansas State Police report.The pickup then hit a concrete barrier. Ott was taken to UAMS Medical Center, where he died from unspecified injuries, police said.The GMC driver, identified as Brian Whitley, 29, of North Little Rock, wasn't hurt.The report didn't indicate why the pickup may have been going the wrong direction on the highway. Conditions at the time were described as clear and dry.The fatality was the 427th death in a traffic accident in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
