Darlington, WI : Darlington man killed in struck by semitractor Highway 81 Lafayette County on Thursday January 14 2016.
A Darlington man was killed when a farm tractor he was driving was struck from behind by a semitractor, according to a release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were called to State Highway 81 east of County Road O in the town of Seymour at 5:35 p.m. Thursday on a report of a crash involving a semi and a farm tractor.
Investigators said an International Harvester driven by Charles T. Lattin, 65, was traveling west on Highway 81 carrying a large round bale of corn stalks when it was struck from behind by the semi.
The semi was being driven by Timothy D. Klaas, 45, of Fennimore. He was taken to Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County, where he was treated for minor injuries and released.
Lattin was pronounced dead at the scene.
Motorists on Highway 81 were detoured for several hours during the crash investigation.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by the Darlington Fire Department, Rural Medical Ambulance, the Lafayette County Highway Department, Wisconsin State Patrol Motor Carrier Inspectors and the Wisconsin State Patrol Reconstruction Team.
