Newton, NC : Two people died in a multi-vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer in Newton on Sunday morning, June 21, 2015

Two people died in a Sunday morning crash in Newton that involved a tractor-trailer.

Newton police were called to the scene of the fatal accident around 6:29 a.m. Sunday on NC Highway 10 near Jarrett Farm Road in Newton.

According to Newton police, the truck and a Toyota Yaris were driving in opposite directions on Highway 10. Somehow the Yaris and Freightliner collided, killing Tammy Norman Frady and Albert Lynn Frady. Then the truck reportedly ran off the side of the road into a parked Scion before coming to a stop.

The Fradys were pronounced dead on scene.

It's hard to see the damage on Highway 10 and think anyone could have slept through the noise of a tractor trailer driving across three yards and crashing into a car parked on this street. A woman who lives in one of the homes nearby said some in her house thought the crash was thunder and another thought the helicopter that flew in to take the driver to the hospital was the wind.

Paige Butterfield said crews cleaned up all the oil that was spilled.

The name of the tractor trailer driver has not been released and she wants to find out how he is doing.

"We're incredibly grateful. We just want to find out his name to thank him personally. So he knows…that's going to be a hard thing on his conscious. Even if it wasn't his fault, he just killed two people. So we want him to know, even though that happened, you saved seven other lives by being able to veer that truck away," Butterfield said.

According to Newton police, the driver of the tractor-trailer was flown by Med Center Air to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. The driver's name and condition are being withheld so that out of state family can be notified.

Police have not said what led up to the crash and say the investigation is ongoing.
