Hoover ,AL : 20-year-old pedestrian critically injured in multi-vehicle crash along I-459 on Sunday Night ,April 26 2015
A young Huntsville man was critically injured Sunday night when he was hit by a car on Interstate 459 while trying to help another wreck victim in a multi-vehicle crash.
The crash happened at 11:15 p.m. in the southbound lanes of I-459 at Alabama 150. Hoover police spokesman Capt. Gregg Rector said the chain of events began when a 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier lost control, struck the outside concrete barrier and wall and came to a stop partially in the far-right lane of traffic. The driver and passenger got out of the car and went to the roadway's shoulder to call 911.
A 2006 Honda Accord then struck the disabled Cavalier, coming to rest near the inside median wall of the interstate. The driver of the Chevrolet Cavalier then attempted to run across the lanes of traffic to check on the driver of the Honda Accord, Rector said. He was hit by an oncoming third vehicle, a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Debris from the third impact also struck a second pedestrian, who had stopped to help others involved in the accidents. Authorities have not yet released any names but Rector provided this information
