LeMars, IA : Sioux City man serious injuries following a collision with a semi-truck west of Le Mars on Friday morning, September 9, 2016

A Sioux City man was sent to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries following a collision with a semi-truck Friday morning west of Le Mars.
At approximately 9:35 a.m., Sept. 9, the Plymouth County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call of a two vehicle accident at Hwy. 3 and County Road K-22 south.

According to the sheriff's report, Gary Johnson of Sioux City was northbound on K-22 driving a 2002 Chevy Silverado and failed to see or stop for a stop sign at Hwy. 3 and K-22.

The second vehicle, a 2010 Peterbuilt tractor pulling a bottom dump trailer driven by John Davis of Elliott, was southbound on Hwy. 3 preparing to turn east onto Hwy. 3.

Johnson tried to take evasive action but contact was made by Elliott's vehicle into the left front wheel area of Johnson's vehicle.

Johnson was pinned in the vehicle and had to be removed by mechanical means by Le Mars Fire-Rescue.

Johnson was transported to Unity Point St. Luke's Sioux City with serious but non-life threatening injuries. His vehicle is listed as totaled.

Davis had a complaint of pain but was not transported from the scene. His vehicle received approximately $5,000 in damage.

The sheriff's office was assisted by the Iowa DOT, Le Mars Fire-Rescue, and Le Mars Ambulance.

Charges are pending at this time for fail to obey a stop sign.
