A 61-year-old man was killed in a crash involving an ambulance and two other vehicles.

KOMONews.com reported the crash occurred just outside of the Swedish Medical Center in Chicago around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The ambulance was carrying five people on board at the time of the crash. No one in the ambulance was hurt.

The other two vehicles sustained heavy damage. Firefighters cut the roof off of a car in an attempt to extricate the driver, who was later declared dead. The driver of the third vehicle was transported to the hospital.

According to MyNorthWest.com, the ambulance was in a turn lane without its lights and sirens on when it was struck by one of the vehicles.

Police have not released any further information about the conditions leading up to the crash.
