Syracuse,NY : Sheriff's office won't say if deputy tested after crash; other cops under investigation on October, Friday 13th 2017
The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department today is refusing to say if an off-duty sheriff's deputy was given any type of sobriety test after hitting a car in Tully and then crashing into a yard miles down the road.
Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard asked the sheriff's office repeatedly on Wednesday and Thursday if the deputy was tested for alcohol after the accident Friday night. Police officers responding to the call had been told by 911 dispatchers that two witnesses said the driver could be impaired.
The sheriff's office issued a response this afternoon, but still did not answer the specific question about whether any tests were given.
"The events that occurred on Friday, Oct. 6 are currently under investigation by the Sheriff's Office Internal Affairs Unit,'' said Sgt. Jon Seeber, speaking for the department.
"The Sheriff's Office is committed to determining the facts surrounding the incident, to include the actions of Sheriff's Office members," he said in an email. "Once these facts and the totality of the circumstances is known, we will share the results of this investigation, within the confines of the law."
The deputies who responded to the call now are part of the investigation, according to the statement.
