PICKENS, SC : a deputy who was involved in a collision on May, Monday, 22nd 2017

The Pickens County Sheriff's Office said troopers cited a deputy who was involved in a collision Monday night.

The crash occurred on Pendleton Street at the E. Main Street intersection around 10 p.m.

Chief Deputy Creed Hashe with the Pickens County Sheriff's Office said the deputy had activated blue lights and was attempting to stop a vehicle that did not stop for a red light. The deputy was crossing the intersection when it was hit on the driver's side by a Toyota truck that was entering the intersection.

The sheriff's office said the deputy was not chasing another vehicle but attempting to perform a traffic stop at the time of the crash.

The deputy and two occupants of the truck were treated for minor injuries and released following the incident.

Hashe said troopers cited the deputy for failure to yield right of way.

“We are extremely thankful and feel blessed that the three parties involved in this accident did not sustain any life-threatening injuries. Unfortunately, the unknown driver in the vehicle that precipitated the incident did not stop and was not able to be identified," Sheriff Rick Clark stated in a news release. "We serve with the vision to protect life and property and we are our own worst critics when our actions fall short of achieving that goal”.
