Alachua County, FL : 5-year-old girl dead in two-car collision on Waldo Road on Thursday morning July 24th 2014
A 5-year-old girl from New York is dead and four others are hurt after a two-vehicle collision Thursday morning on Waldo Road in Alachua County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The accident occurred at 11:12 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Northeast Waldo Road and Northeast 61st Street. Investigators said a 32-year-old Tabitha Morris, of Starke, was traveling in her 2009 Ford Expedition south on Waldo Road in the outside lane.
The driver of a 2014 Kia Soul, 32-year-old Joseph Paul, from New York, was also traveling southbound on the road and had stopped just prior to the crash in an attempt to enter information into a GPS system. According to FHP, the Kia was partially blocking the outside lane.
Morris failed to see the Kia and struck the rear of it, troopers said. Both cars traveled off the roadway and onto the west shoulder, where they came to a final stop.
Annabel Jeanine Montimaire, 5, who was sitting in the left back seat of the Kia, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to FHP.
Both drivers and 34-year-old Cassandra Montimaire, who rode as a passenger inside the Kia, were all taken to UF Health Shands with non-life-threatening injuries. Troopers said 8-year-old Sebastien Montimaire was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
FHP said charges are pending further investigation.
