A Winter Haven man was seriously injured Tuesday after his motorcycle was struck by a Hyundai Sonata on a stretch of U.S. 27 near International Bass Lake Boulevard in Davenport.Ricardo Garcia Brito, 26, was listed in “extremely critical condition” late Tuesday night at Osceola Regional Medical Center, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Brito was wearing a helmet while riding a Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle northbound on U.S. 27 when the southbound Hyundai, driven by Callista Godfrey, 30, of Davenport, turned east into his path, the Sheriff’s Office says in a news release.
Godfrey, who was wearing a seat belt, was uninjured. The incident remains under investigation, though investigators said they do not suspect either driver was impaired or distracted, according to the PCSO. No criminal charges are anticipated.
The incident shut down International Bass Boulevard and one lane of U.S. 27 for more than three hours Tuesday.
