A Hopkins County woman was injured in a two-vehicle accident near downtown Madisonville on Thursday.
According to the Madisonville Police Department, James Sigler, 75, of Providence was driving his 2004 Oldsmobile Alero south on South Scott Street around 10:15 a.m. when he disregarded the stop sign at the East Broadway intersection.
Sigler traveled into the path of Donna Tucker, 67, of Madisonville, who was driving her 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee on East Broadway. Sigler and his passenger, 68-year-old Roy Duncan, also of Providence, reportedly said they were not familiar with the area and neglected to see the sign.
Sigler's vehicle struck Tucker's on the front passenger side. He continued to travel south into the front yard of 148 E. Broadway, where he struck the corner of the front porch with his front bumper before coming to a rest against it. Tucker continued traveling south and struck a one-way sign post before striking a tree at the same address.
Upon MPD's arrival, the Jeep's engine compartment was on fire. Officers used extinguishers to control the flames, but Madisonville Fire Department crews ultimately arrived and put out the fire. Tucker refused ambulance service to Baptist Health Madisonville, and instead used a private vehicle to seek treatment for a possible non-life-threatening injury.
