Baton Rouge,LA : Two-vehicle crash kills Mississippi man on Winbourne Avenue on January, Friday 12th 2018
Baton Rouge police are investigating a two-vehicle crash Friday near Winbourne Avenue and Dougherty Drive that killed a Woodville, Mississippi, man and injured one other person.
Oliver Perry, 67, was taken to a hospital but died later Friday from his injuries, said Sgt. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.
The wreck occurred about 1 p.m. in the 5500 block of Winbourne Avenue near Dougherty Drive and involved a Jeep Wrangler and Ford Taurus, driven by Perry, Coppola said. The driver of the Jeep was headed east on Winbourne, approaching Dougherty in an outside lane. Perry had stopped on Dougherty for a red light. Coppola said that investigators believe that as the light turned green, Perry started to drive the Ford through the intersection and was struck by the Jeep.
Coppola said the driver of the Jeep was not injured and a passenger in Perry's Ford was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
