DETROIT, MI : 1 dead after driver crashes into tow truck in Detroit Monday, 1st January 2024

A man is dead and a tow truck driver suffered serious injuries after a possible drunk driver ran into them just hours into New Year's Day, according to the Detroit police.

“I was awaken by a big, big boom," Elondo Armstead Sr. told Action News.

The loud boom that woke Armstead out of his sleep roared throughout the neighborhood around 5:21 a.m. It happened on the city's east side on Hayes Street between Young and Hazelridge Street.

Ladajah Swan, who lives across the road and around the block from Armstead, said her 6-year-old heard a loud bang.
