A five-vehicle crash in Dacono on Thursday afternoon killed a 75-year-old Florida woman.
Dacono Police Chief Brian Skaggs said that June Schmidt, of Ocala, Fla., died en route to a hospital after her car was struck in a westbound turn lane on Colo. 52 at the intersection of Cherry Street by an eastbound semi-trailer carrying a load of oil.
Skaggs said Schmidt was in a line of three cars waiting to turn onto Cherry Street when a utility truck carrying a load of hot tar rear-ended one of the cars and sent Schmidt's car into oncoming traffic.
Two other people suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the utility truck, who police did not name, has been cited for careless driving resulting in death and two counts of careless driving resulting in injuries.
Speed, drugs and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
