JOHNSTON, RI : 2 dead after car crash at Johnston gas station on Tuesday, December 13th 2016
Flames shooting out of a Sunoco gas station in Johnston, after a three car accident. It claimed the lives of Taylor Reilly and Dylan Laurenzo both just 18 years old.
The crash happened Tuesday evening at intersection of Route 6 and Bishop Hill Road. Police say a car driven by Andrea D'agostino, 87, of Johnston was turning left when his car collided with another vehicle in the intersection. Reilly and Laurenzo were passengers in that second car, driven by Zachery Albanese, 19, of Johnston, which swerved into the gas station parking lo hitting a third car. Albanese remains in the hospital in critical condition. The third vehicle, a Honda, struck a gas pump and immediately became engulfed in flames.
D'Agostino was taken to Miriam Hospital and released on Wednesday.
As police continue to piece their evidence together, friends of the victims told ABC6 they were trying to cope with . One of Reilly's best friends Alexa Resendes, spoke to ABC6 about the friendship they shared.
"She was a really selfless person. She was really supportive, and she was an easy person to talk to," said Resendes.
Reilly graduated from Coventry High School and Resendes tells ABC6 she was studying psychology at the University of Rhode Island. Resendes says there was always one main focus for Reilly. "She wanted to be happy, like that's what she was striving for, no matter what she did at the end of the day she wanted to be happy."
Laurenzo's friends describe him as someone with a good sense of humor and a positive attitude, who always put family first. They say no matter what life threw at him he had a smile on his face.
State Police said Wednesday that evidence may have been tainted due to the fire suppression system, firefighters hosing down Rt.6, icing on the roads and RIDOT sanding the streets. They explained often times the roadways have tire marks and other evidence that can indicate if a person is speeding or swerving.
