Manchester, N.H : Pregnant woman, man injured in a rollover crash on Beech Street in Manchester on Tuesday, Nov 3, 2015
Manchester, New Hampshire
A utility pole was sheared off and two people were seriously injured Tuesday in a rollover crash on Beech Street in Manchester.
Two cars were involved in the crash at Beech and Silver streets. Manchester police said a gray Mazda driven by Greg Beaulieu, 24, of Manchester, collided with a Saab driven by Dennis Beaudoin, 28, of Manchester, while changing lanes.
"I was like half a car length behind them. The Mazda came up and went around them. The Mazda was trying to squeeze in between the two," witness Joshua Fishwick said. "The Saab sped up. They were going like 50, 60 mph. The Mazda kept swerving like he was trying to sneak through. Then he just went over and hit the Saab."
The Saab rolled over, and Dennis Beaudoin and his wife, Brittany Beaudoin, 23, who was 7 months pregnant, suffered serious injuries that were considered not life-threatening.
The Beaudoins were taken to Elliot Hospital. Dennis Beaudoin was treated and released, but Brittany Beaudoin remained hospitalized in fair condition. Authorities later said that Brittany Beaudoin gave birth to a baby boy via Caesarean section.
Brittany Beaudoin's father, Eric Turner, told WCVB that his grandson was not due until Christmas.
"Baby boy, Hayden. He was supposed to be due on Christmas. Decided to come earlier," said Turner.
Turner said his daughter was in good condition -- considering the circumstances.
"She's resting pretty well. She had to have some surgery on an ankle. She has some pins in her [and] her hip is broken, I believe," said Turner.
Turner said his daughter and son-in-law live in the area and were coming home after a doctor's appointment when the crash happened.
"It looks like there was some people racing and they got caught in the middle," said Turner. "They got stuck in the middle. You can see in the surveillance. I saw a car go whizzing by and one from behind trying to catch him, I guess, and get between two other cars, and clipped [them]."
"It looks like there was just a little space. Not enough for his car obviously, and he tried to thread the needle between them and hit my daughter's car and knocked them off the road and flipped them over," said Turner.
Turner said his grandson is doing well, and that Dennis Beaudoin had been released but remained at the hospital with his wife.
"They had to take the baby by Caesarean. The baby is doing well. [Her] husband was thrown out of the car. He dislocated a hip and he's doing better. He's been let out of the hospital but he's there with my daughter," said Turner.
"Dennis, I believe he must have been knocked out for a minute. But I know that Brittany said she remembered everything. She remembered flipping over, the car landing upside down, and then he was thrown out. He crawled his way over to her to see if she was OK," said Turner.
Now, Turner said he's thankful his family is alive.
"We are all just thanking the stars that all three survived ... It's just, I haven't kind of settled down yet. Taking it all in," said Turner.
No information was provided on Beaulieu's condition.
Nearby residents said they lost power because of the crash, and the top of the utility pole could be seen suspended in the overhead wires. One resident said he saw smoke coming from the overturned car when he went outside to see what happened.
