Parker, CO : Semi crash on Interstate 25 caused major traffic backups Tuesday morning, January 20, 2015

All lanes of Interstate 25 near C-470 have reopened after a semi-trailer crash forced the closure of the interstate in both directions early Tuesday morning.

The crash happened at about 4:15 a.m. and involved a jackknifed semi in a construction zone between Lincoln Avenue and C-470.

"It's jacked up, to say the least," said Chief Steve Standridge of South Metro Fire Rescue.

Road closures began at about 5 a.m., according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. Conditions in the area near the crash are said to be snowy and wet, according to the department.

The road fully reopened at about 7:30 a.m.

Fire crews struggled to reach the semi because of construction in the area, Standridge said. Emergency responders were working to clean up about 75 gallons of diesel fuel the truck spilled on the highway.

The Colorado State Patrol told motorists to expect "extreme" delays in the area while crews cleaned up debris.

Traffic was being rerouted off the highway.
