Hudson, FL : 30-year-old Matthew Joseph Oliver injured in wrong-way crash on U.S. 19 in Pasco on Friday night, February 20, 2015

A 30-year-old Spring Hill man was hospitalized with serious injuries after he was injured in a crash in which he was driving the wrong-way on U.S. 19 in Hudson Friday night.

Florida Highway Patrol spokesperson Steve Gaskins reports that the accident involved four vehicles and happened at about 8:19 p.m.

Gaskins confirmed that the wrong-way driver, Matthew Joseph Oliver was the only person seriously injured in the accident.

Officials state that Oliver was driving an SUV northbound in the southbound lanes on U.S. 19 when he crashed head-on with another SUV near Sanderling Lane.

Investigators said third vehicle was following in the southbound lanes and went off the road when they tried to avoid the accident, striking a light pole.

The light pole crashed on a fourth car.

Gaskins revealed that Oliver was taken to Bayonet Point Medical Center and that his injuries are serious but not life-threatening.

Authorities believe that Oliver was drinking and charges on him are pending.
