TEWKSBURY, MA : Serious injury in 3-vehicle I-495 crash in Tewksbury on Monday, 7th May 2018

A 27-year-old Worcester man was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston following a three-vehicle crash on Interstate 495 around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The man suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to Trooper Paul Sullivan, a state police spokesman.

A 40-year-old Lawrence woman in a separate vehicle suffered minor injuries in the crash. Two other people involved were uninjured.

The crash took place on Interstate 495 North between Routes 38 and 133.

It is believed the 27-year-old injured in the crash caused the accident, Sullivan said. Initial reports suggest the Worcester man drove his 2010 Toyota Corolla into a 2002 Toyota RAV4 -- occupied by the 40-year-old Lawrence woman. The RAV4 then struck a third vehicle, a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

The 27-year-old's car left the roadway and went into the nearby wood line, according to Sullivan.

The crash remains under investigation.
