A Brownstown Township man died Monday, Dec. 18, after the garbage truck he was driving rear-ended a truck tractor-trailer on M-50.
Michigan State Police troopers were dispatched at approximately 7 a.m. to a report of a two-vehicle injury crash on M-50, east of Hendershot Highway, according to a media release issued Monday afternoon by the Monroe post of the Michigan State Police.
Troopers reported the driver of the Allied Waste Services truck, Paul Timmons, 52, had been killed in the crash.
Timmons was driving west on M-50 and failed to slow down for slow-moving traffic ahead, striking the rear end of a truck used to haul roll-off trash containers, the press release said. The impact caused substantial damage to the passenger compartment of the garbage truck, resulting in Timmons’ death.
Timmons was the only occupant in the truck at the time of the crash. The other driver was uninjured and was released from the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the state police. Preliminary information indicated that neither drugs nor alcohol are factors in the crash. Anyone having information about this incident is asked to call Trooper Nicholas Kaiser of the Monroe post at 734-242-3500.
