MID-MICHIGAN, MI : 81-year-old man who hit and killed a trooper now recovering at home on Monday, 29th January 2024

The 81-year-old man who hit and killed a Michigan State Police trooper last week has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home, according to the Michigan State Police.

On Wednesday, trooper Joel Popp from the Michigan State Police Tri-City Post was making a traffic stop when the 81-year-old man hit the trooper along northbound I-75 and the Birch Road interchange.

The 81-year-old was hospitalized with serious injuries. Police confirm that he is now recovering at home.

Police are still investigating on what caused the crash, but say that distracted driving is a possibility.
