Greeley, CO : Patient killed in Sedgwick County ambulance crash on Sunday, April 17, 2016

The patient who was killed in a Sedgwick County Ambulance rollover on Sunday has been identified as Brenda Ebke, 57, of Julesburg.

Ebke was being transported to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley early Sunday morning when the ambulance slid on I-76 near mile marker 98, went off the highway and rolled over in the median. The accident was reported to the Morgan County Law Communication Center at 2:07 a.m. The Morgan County Coroner's Office reported that Ebke died at the scene from injuries sustained during the crash.

According to responding Colorado State Patrol officers, wet weather and poor driving conditions most likely caused the accident. They said the ambulance was traveling about 20 miles per hour below the speed limit at the time of the crash.

An emergency medical technician, Vickie Sandlin, was also critically injured in the crash and was transported to Colorado Plains Medical Center in Fort Morgan, before being moved to Northern Colorado Medical Center for further treatment. As of Monday morning, she was still in the intensive care unit but was listed in fair condition. The ambulance's driver, Lauren Putney, was treated at CPMC and released for less serious injuries.

In addition to the CSP officers, the Hillrose/Snyder Volunteer Fire Department also responded to the accident. An investigation by the Colorado State Patrol and Morgan County Coroner's Office is still ongoing.
