Indianapolis,IN : Mother set to get diploma for son killed in car crash on may, thursday 11th 2017

Next month, the senior class from Pike High School will walk across the stage at graduation and get their high school diplomas.

One of their classmates, though, won't be there.

Kam'Ron Redding was killed in a car crash this past November. His mother found out Wednesday how the district plans to recognize her son's hard work that he never got a chance to finish.

"I'm taking it day-by-day, really," said Tanika Redding in her west side home.

That's all she can do right now as June 1 gets closer. It's the day her only child, her son, 18-year-old Kam' Ron Redding would have graduated from high school.

"He was everything that a mother could ask for and more," said Redding, tearing up.

Kam had plans to attend Kentucky State University in the fall and Redding was looking forward to watching him graduate with his childhood friends, kids who have rallied around her since Kam's death.

"They've taken me and him along the journey with them," she said.

Now Redding's not sure she'll be able to be there to watch them graduate without Kam.

"I'm not sure my heart can take it," she said.

Until today, Redding said the school planned to honor Kam with a moment of silence, but not with a diploma, because state regulations required him to have more credits.

"I just need more than a moment of silence, because he was more than a moment of silence," said Redding.

All that changed today, though, according to Redding, who said the high school principal called her to say Kam would indeed get his diploma, just like the rest of the Class of 2017
