Miami ,FL : One Motorcyclist seriously injured after two-vehicle crash along U.S. 441 on Tuesday afternoon , May ,5th 2015
A motorcyclist was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 441 on Tuesday afternoon.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said a helicopter that was supposed to airlift the injured man to the hospital had landed in the middle of U.S. 441 but was unable to take off due to a mechanical failure. Traffic was blocked as officials frantically worked to fix the problem.
According to authorities, a 2006 Wuxi MS motorcycle, ridden by 59-year-old Todd Worrell of Ocala, was heading north on 441 at about 4:42 p.m., attempting to make a U-turn to travel southbound on 441.
A 2005 Chevy Equinox, driven by April Henderson, was on Southeast 104th Terrace, trying to make a right turn onto U.S. 441 to go southbound.
Officials said Worrell made the U-turn. However, instead of turning into the left travel lane, the motorcyclist turned into the right travel lane. The SUV then turned right from Southeast 104th Terrace onto U.S. 441 into the right lane.
FHP troopers said the front of the motorcycle collided into the right side of the SUV, ejecting Worrell, who was thrown under the vehicle. Firefighters from Marion County Fire Rescue went to the location, and a ShandsCair helicopter was also called to the area.
