MALCOLM, NE : Woman killed in crash with dump truck identified on Monday , 22nd August, 2016
The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office said Veda Beckman died in a crash on West Bluff Road Monday afternoon.
Beckman, 74 of rural Pleasant Dale, was driving west in a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox when she ran into the back of a Peterbilt dump truck stopped as it waited to turn into a construction site on the gravel road near Northwest 140th Street shortly after 2 p.m., authorities said.
The Sheriff's Office said rescue workers from Malcolm tried to revive Beckman and called for a medical helicopter, but she died at the scene. Beckman, the only passenger in the SUV, was not wearing a seat belt.
The dump truck's driver, Madonna Rairigh, 55, of Crete, was not injured.
Sgt. Tommy Trotter said officials don't know yet if dust from the road was a factor in the crash, but he advised drivers to slow down and leave plenty of distance between them and other cars in rural areas.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Alcohol and drugs were not a factor, the Sheriff's Office said.
