Nampa, ID : Caldwell man killed in van vs. tractor crash on Sunday, 25th September 2016
The Canyon County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of the people involved in a fatal car crash with two tractors Sunday morning near Caldwell.
Augustin Rangel, 55, of Caldwell, died at West Valley Medical Center after a van tried to pass first one tractor and then Rangel’s tractor going eastbound on Homedale Road near Beet Road.
The van struck the first tractor, then drove into the back of Rangel’s tractor and overturned, ejecting Rangel in the collision.
The driver of the van, 28-year-old Edgar Alaniz of Homedale, and the driver of the first tractor, Samuel Palacio, 37, of Caldwell, were ejected in the crash.
Of the other occupants of the van, Alaniz’s 24-year-old wife, was transported to West Valley for evaluation. Alaniz and two minor children who were also in the van were uninjured.
Police continue to investigate the crash.
The sheriff’s office issued a statement reminding drivers to use caution while driving during the harvest, when many farm vehicles are on the roads.
“Local farmers are moving farm implements and other agricultural machinery along county roadways as they access farm fields,” the statement said. “Remember, some farm implements are much wider than the normal vehicle using the roadways, and motorists may need to slow down, move over, and perhaps even come to a stop to allow these large pieces of machinery to pass. Be patient when traveling behind farm equipment; farmers have the same rights as automobile drivers to operate their equipment on the roads.”
