Maryland City, MD : DC groom-to-be killed after car hits him, fiancee on Route 197 in Anne Arundel County on Sunday, February 1, 2015
U.S. Park Police say a D.C. couple engaged to be married were hit by a car as they changed a tire, killing the groom-to-be.
The man's family is putting out a public call for whoever was driving the car to surrender to police.
Sgt. Lelani Woods says a car hit 38-year-old Rick Warrick and his 28-year-old fiancee, Julia Pearce, around 9:15 p.m. Sunday as they changed a tire on the Baltimore Washington Parkway north of Route 197 in Anne Arundel County.
Warrick was killed. His fiancee, Pearce, was taken to Baltimore's Shock Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
Family members say two teenage children of Warrick's were in the car when he and Pearce were hit.
Woods says the couple were completely on the shoulder of the roadway when they were hit. The car that hit them fled.
"Truly, if you have a child, or any children, how would you feel if someone just ran over your child, killed your child, and just kept going?" said Charmaine Ferrell-Anthony, the mother of Warrick. "A hit and run, there's no excuse for it, when you can just stop right there."
Ferrell-Anthony says if the suspect surrendered to police it would help the family heal.
Woods says Pearce didn't get a good look at the car, and no witnesses have reported seeing the crash.
