Second crash

A Hayward woman died after a two-vehicle head-on crash in St. Croix County. Seven others were injured.

The crash occurred at 11:03 a.m. Saturday on Highway 64 in the town of Forest. The highway was closed for about four hours after the crash.

Ellen L. Gordon, 59, was pronounced dead at the scene by the St. Croix County medical examiner. She was wearing a seat belt.

Gordon’s passenger, 49-year-old Sheila A. Barber of Couderay, was flown to Regions Hospital in St. Paul.

According to the sheriff’s office, Gordon was driving a Ford Fusion, which collided with a Ford truck, driven by 46-year-old Darren L. Smith of Glenwood City. The preliminary indications are that Gordon’s westbound car crossed the center line and struck Smith’s eastbound truck. Both vehicles came to a stop in the road.

Smith was taken to Westfields Hospital & Clinic in New Richmond with injuries. Also in Smith’s truck were JoAnn M. Smith, 55, Judith L. Coyer, 74, Denise L. Smith, 51, all of Glenwood City, along with William W. Wolff, 52, and Deanna L. Wolff, 54, both of Adrian, Mo. They were all taken to area hospitals with injuries.
