A man was killed in a crash involving two vehicles that closed sections of Highway 421 Saturday afternoon around 12:30.
Troopers say a Honda Element was driving in the southbound lane when it crossed the center line and hit a pickup truck head-on.
The driver of the Honda, Larry Hardwick Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Highway Patrol Trooper K.B. Parker. He was the only person in the Honda at the time of the crash.
Three people in the pickup truck, including the driver, were taken to New Hanover Medical Center. They were all released Saturday evening.
Highway 421 was backed up in both directions for hours, but all lanes reopened Saturday evening before 8:30 p.m.
No word yet on what caused the crash.
