Bonners Ferry ,ID :Driver charged in U.S. 95 crash on Saturday, July 18th 2015

A driver was charged with reckless driving after crashing while trying to pass several cars, the Idaho State Police reported.

The crash occurred on U.S. Highway 95 south of Bonners Ferry shortly after noon Saturday. Gary E. Alvarez, 69, of California, was heading south in a Ford pickup when he slowed to make a left turn on Brown Creek Road. Several cars behind him also slowed, ISP said.

Cheyann N. Phillips, 17, of Moyie Springs, was southbound and attempted to pass a half-dozen cars at high speed, the ISP said. Phillips’ Ford Explorer struck Alvarez’s pickup as Alvarez turned left.

Phillips was taken to Kootenai Health by Life Flight and released by Saturday evening.
