Lithonia ,GA : Off-duty police officer, infant killed when motorcycle and car collide outside Atlanta on Saturday night ,July 4th 2015

Authorities say an off-duty police officer and an infant have both died after a crash outside Atlanta.

WSB-TV reports that the two-vehicle wreck happened around 10:45 p.m. Saturday on Rock Chapel Road in DeKalb County.

WXIA-TV reports that 26-year-old Lithonia police Officer Jamell Dent died at the scene.

Authorities said an infant in the other vehicle was taken to a hospital and later died.

Lithonia Police Chief Roosevelt Smith said Dent is a 7-year police veteran who has been with the Lithonia Police Department for about seven months.

Authorities say he was riding his personal motorcycle when the collision happened.
