Tuskegee, AL : Boy, 5, struck, killed by school bus while picking up books in eastern Alabama early Monday, Oct 26, 2015
Authorities say a 5-year-old student was struck by a school bus and killed after dropping his books and stopping to pick them up on a road in eastern Alabama.
Macon County Coroner Hal Bentley tells that Bissiah Hedges was struck early Monday about 15 miles from Tuskegee.
Bentley says the boy bent down to pick up a notebook and candy while he was in the road, and the bus driver didn’t see him.
State trooper spokesman Jess Thornton says it appears the death was a tragic accident. He says it doesn’t appear the bus driver was negligent.
The child was a kindergartner at George Washington Carver Elementary School in Tuskegee.
