Lebanon, OH : Driver in fatal Liberty Twp. crash charged on Monday, May 29, 2017
Lt. Clint Arnold with the Ohio State Patrol Hamilton post said the driver of the vehicle in a fatal Liberty Twp. crash has been charged with one count of aggravated vehicular homicide.
George Hughes, 49, was driving a 2003 BMW 745I east on state Route 129 at about 12:27 p.m. when the car went off the right side of the road and hit a fence and a tree near mile marker 22, according to a news release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
A passenger in the vehicle, 47-year-old Philip Murry, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Butler County coroner.
The crash remains under investigation, and Arnold said they still don’t how he went off the road.
“We don’t know why he ran off the side of the road in the fashion that he did,” Arnold said. “Obviously we feel impairment had something to do with it. There was no sign of any evasive action once he got off the road, there was no evidence of him trying to get back on the road, no evidence of him applying the brakes, there is no evidence of any vehicle defects that would have caused him to go off the road.”
The police report has not been completed yet, according to Arnold.
