Clayton, Nc : 22-year-old Sandpoint man dies in 395 crash in Clayton in the death of a Sandpoint man in Stevens County on Friday, 20th July 2018

Washington State Patrols responded to a crash that resulted in the death of a Sandpoint man in Stevens County Friday evening.

On SR-395 in Clayton near Mile Post 185, 42-year-old Rebecca Clemmer was travelling northbound when her Chevrolet Cruze crossed the center line. Erik Bruhjell, 22 of Sandpoint, tried to avoid Clemmer’s vehicle, but his Mazda MZ3 was struck on the southbound shoulder.

Bruhjell was later pronounced dead. Next of kin has been notified.

Clemmer, of Inchelium, was transported to the hospital and is in custody for vehicular homicide. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash. There were no other occupants of either vehicle.

The crash is under investigation. The road is closed and a detour is in place.
