SOUTH PORTLAND, ME : Hollis man killed in South Portland on Sunday, July 2, 2017

Police have identified the man who was killed after being hit by a car on Cummings Road in South Portland early Sunday morning.

Police said Joseph LePage, 24, of Hollis, was walking along the roadway near the Target plaza when he was struck by a vehicle being driven southbound by 29-year-old Kristen Hodak of Arundel. LePage died at the scene.

Hodak’s vehicle was found unattended approximately 2 miles from the scene. Police said Hodak initially received a ride to a nearby friend’s house, but later returned to the scene of the crash. After an hours-long investigation, Hodak is facing charges of operating under the influence and failing to stop for an accident resulting in death.

Cummings Road, located between Running Hill and Payne roads was closed for several hours while Maine State Police and Windham Police investigated the crash. The road reopened around 5 a.m. Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing.
