Leavenworth,KS : Cyclist killed in collision on June, Sunday 18th 2017
A Leavenworth cyclist was killed when he changed lanes in front of a car on 20th Street, a police spokesman said.
Mark Nicholson, 65, Leavenworth, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Maj. Dan Nicodemus, deputy chief of the Leavenworth Police Department.
The crash was reported at 5:09 p.m. Sunday on 20th Street south of Lecompton Road.
Nicholson was traveling north in the right lane. A 1999 Mercury Mystique was traveling north in the left lane.
“The cyclist moved from the right lane to the left lane in front of the vehicle,” Nicodemus said, and Nicholson was struck by the car.
Witnesses did not see the cyclist make a hand signal to indicate that he intended to change lanes, Nicodemus said.
The car was driven by a 53-year-old Kansas City, Kansas, woman.
The accident remains under investigation.
“We have some work to do on this,” Nicodemus said.
