REHOBOTH, MA : Two hit-and-run accidents in Rehoboth within short time span on Friday, December, 1st 2017

Police continue looking for a vehicle that hit a 41-year-old woman and fled on Route 44 just before 6 p.m. Friday.

But authorities reported an arrest in another, unrelated, alleged hit-and-run that happened half an hour later.

The first accident took place in the area of 206 Winthrop St. (Route 44).

The woman was taken to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence with minor injuries, officials said.

"When officers arrived they found a female victim lying on the shoulder of the roadway on the north side of Winthrop Street," Sgt. Brian Ramos said, adding the woman was conscious and reported she had been struck from behind while walking westbound.

The vehicle left a passenger side mirror at the scene, police said.

It is believed the vehicle is a dark blue 2011 or newer model BMW 3 series sedan or coupe, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Officer Jeffrey Perry at 508-252-3722.

Less than a half hour later, police received a 911 call reporting a second, unrelated hit-and-run accident involving two vehicles at the intersection of Tremont and Anawan Street.

None of the six occupants of the vehicle that was struck were hurt, Ramos said.

It was reported a white Nissan sedan with front-end damage had fled the scene, he said.

Area police departments were notified to be on the lookout for the vehicle that was last seen traveling south on Anawan Street. (Route 118).

A short time later, Dighton Police Sgt. Cronin observed a vehicle matching the description and having front-end damage was traveling east on Wellington Street in their town. Cronin subsequently stopped the vehicle, driven by Sonya Paiva, 46, of Warren, R.I., Ramos said.

Rehoboth Officer Thomas Ranley responded and quickly determined the vehicle was the same vehicle that fled from the Rehoboth crash, Ramos added.

Paiva is facing pending charges for leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and negligent operation.
